Why do you care about songwriting as a craft and why do you care about building the TERRA Community? What does it all mean to you?

I think people write songs for different reasons. Sometimes a person feels like they need to write in order to understand a thought, feeling, emotion, experience or event better. Maybe they were asked to write a song for a placement in a movie, tv show or commercial and they want to "get that monayy" as it is said. Sometimes they want to write a song as a gift to another person. Maybe they just want to write the most beautifully arranged piece of music and write the most poetic lyrics they can just to make something beautiful in the world. Sometimes its just to write a SICK BEAT with a HUGE DROP that will GO OFF IN THE CLUB. Its all valid and there are no rules. TERRA gives space for and encourages all of that. It has been a foundational group and experience for me in my songwriting and a lot of people would benefit from being a part of a songwriting community.

Have you had a mentor in the past? How do you think that affects your perspective as a mentor?

I haven’t had a mentor in the sense of asking someone “will you be my mentor please?” But I have absolutely had and still have mentors in my life. Mentorship offers new perspective on a situation. It can obviously teach you new practical skills as well. Having someone who is aware of what you are working on, what your goals are and your progress keeps you accountable to those goals and projects. We are our own worst critics and having an external force in your life to give more input is only beneficial.

What are you proud of in your songwriting and how can that help others build the same strengths?

Im proud of my versatility. It has always been a goal of mine to be as versatile of a musician, producer and songwriter as I can. I’ve always been inspired by a lot of different genre’s, writing styles, art mediums and what excites me the most in music is finding a way to put all those inspirations into a blender and make something truly unique. I can help others build the same strength by sharing some of those influences and bringing my own perspective to their music.

What do you think your standout skills are for mentoring?

I am a good listener, I can hear “through” the demo to what an end goal is, I think I am good at cutting to the root of peoples motivations. What do you REALLY want this song to be? What is the emotion/energy you REALLY want people to feel when listening to this song? I also think I am good at finding really small ways to improve an idea, especially lyrically.

What skills outside of songwriting would you like to share?

Recording skillz, sample selection skillz, arrangement skillz, mixing skillz, skillz working FOR other artists, nunchuck skillz, bow staff skillz.

How Much do you charge for an hour-long session?
